Focus area: climate regulation, corporate carbon footprint, greenhouse gas emissions accounting, MRV
Organization type: financial institution / commercial bank
Location: Republic of Uzbekistan
Client: JSCB Uzpromstroybank (SQB)
HPBS role: climate consultant / developer of the corporate greenhouse gas inventory
Result: a corporate greenhouse gas inventory was conducted for 2023 covering Scope 1, Scope 2, and applicable Scope 3 categories; a methodological basis was created for subsequent calculations and reporting; and the bank’s team received training in corporate greenhouse gas emissions accounting at the HPBS office in Amsterdam.
About the project
As part of the development of its climate agenda and corporate emissions accounting system, JSCB Uzpromstroybank (SQB) engaged HPBS to conduct a comprehensive greenhouse gas emissions inventory.
The project covered the bank’s activities in Uzbekistan and included an analysis of its own assets and operating processes, definition of organizational and calculation boundaries, identification and structuring of emission sources, and calculation of the corporate carbon footprint.
A separate workstream was dedicated to indirect Scope 3 emissions: identifying applicable categories, collecting and structuring source data, and developing calculation approaches.
Our role
HPBS acted as a corporate greenhouse gas emissions accounting consultant and supported the project from defining the inventory boundaries and identifying sources through to performing calculations and preparing the final reports.
A separate part of the project was training the Uzpromstroybank team at the HPBS office in Amsterdam. It was aimed at developing the bank’s internal competencies in greenhouse gas emissions accounting, understanding Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3, calculation methodology, and the further use of the inventory results in the climate and ESG agenda.
The work made it possible not only to structure the bank’s emissions data, but also to build internal expertise for the further development of corporate greenhouse gas accounting and climate reporting.
