Korzinka — an extensive supermarket chain in Uzbekistan owned by Anglesey Food. It was established in 1996 and is one of the first retail chains in the Republic of Uzbekistan to operate supermarkets in different formats.
HPBS is Anglesey Food’s consultant and auditor for obtaining EDGE certification (World Bank Group) for the Korzinka Distribution Center.
The EDGE standard was developed by the IFC (International Finance Corporation) of the World Bank Group to promote and simplify the creation of green and sustainable buildings in developing countries. Obtaining this certification provides access to various incentives from international institutions. In Central Asia, it is also an accessible tool for obtaining green financing from local banks because it meets Green Taxonomy requirements.
The following tasks are being performed:
1. Design and construction support, including:

development of a technical certification strategy;

preparation of supporting documentation for audits at the design and construction stages
2. EDGE audit

at the design stage: preliminary certification

at the construction stage: site visit by the auditor and final certification
Obtaining the EDGE certificate
As a result of EDGE certification, criteria for reducing water and energy consumption are developed and implemented at the Distribution Center, and the embodied carbon footprint of construction materials is reduced. This approach makes the business resilient to climate risks over the long term.
The HPBS team officially presented Korzinka’s management with the international EDGE Buildings certificate at the construction stage, at Advanced level, for its distribution center.
This is the first building in Uzbekistan certified under the EDGE standard as a new construction project.
EDGE Advanced certification confirms that the building demonstrates a significant reduction in resource consumption compared with conventional benchmarks, specifically:
● 41% energy savings
● 30% water savings
● 31% reduction in embodied carbon in materials
The Korzinka distribution center project combines innovative technologies and modern construction materials, enabling it to achieve the advanced EDGE energy-efficiency certification level.
HPBS acted as the EDGE certification consultant, providing comprehensive support throughout every stage of project design and construction. Obtaining the EDGE Advanced certificate is an important milestone for the Korzinka team, confirming its firm commitment to introducing advanced technologies and sustainable practices. The project not only improves energy efficiency and reduces the distribution center’s operating expenses, but also establishes a new benchmark for quality and environmental responsibility in the industry.

IFC — International Finance Corporation (IFC) provided USD 25 million in financing to Korzinka (Anglesey Food LLC) for the construction of this modern “green” distribution center in accordance with the global Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) certification system at Advanced level.
The EDGE standard, developed by IFC, is intended to promote environmentally sound and sustainable buildings in developing countries and provides access to various incentives from international financial institutions. The standard is also a practical and effective tool for CIS countries to attract green financing from international banks.
IFC, part of the World Bank Group, is the world’s largest development institution focused on supporting the private sector in emerging markets.
