Uzbekistan plans to launch new initiatives in urban studies, architecture and territorial development.
At the instruction of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Tashkent will establish the first creative park for architects, designers and urban planning professionals, as well as a specialized university focusing on urbanisation, cadastre and geodesy.
Development of specialized education
It is reported that the following institutions will begin operating in the capital from the new academic year:

a specialized self-financing university;

a specialized technical college.
The projects are aimed at training specialists for rapidly growing fields:

urban planning;

architecture;
-
territorial engineering;
-
cadastre;
-
spatial development.
A creative park for professionals
The new creative park will become a platform for developing the professional community of architects and urban planners.
Residents are expected to have access to tax benefits and additional support mechanisms. Similar platforms are also planned for development in the country’s regions.
The initiative could become an important step in building an ecosystem in the fields of:

Support for local business
Particular attention was paid to the participation of Uzbek companies in international infrastructure and investment projects.
It was noted that the total portfolio of projects implemented jointly with international financial organizations exceeds USD 20 billion.
In this regard, instructions were given to introduce a system for preparing local companies to participate in international tenders and improve their competitiveness.
Transition from subcontractors to general contractors
During the discussion, the President critically assessed the current situation, in which major Uzbek companies often remain in the role of subcontractors.
The need was emphasized to:

improve design quality;

develop engineering competencies;

bring national companies to the level of general contractors.
