Life Cycle Assessment

Life cycle assessment (LCA) is a methodology for analyzing a product’s environmental footprint at every stage of its existence: from extraction and production through packaging, transportation, and use to disposal. Here, the term “product” includes both materials and services.

LCA plays an important role in project implementation and in creating an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), a declaration containing information about a facility’s environmental impact at different stages of its life cycle.

“Cradle to grave” means analyzing a product’s entire life cycle from its beginning through the end of its use.

“Cradle to cradle” is a concept in which a product’s life cycle is closed and the product is continuously recycled, eliminating waste generation.

Service description

Life cycle assessment provides the most comprehensive picture of the impacts of products and corporate activities. As part of this assessment, an EPD (Environmental Product Declaration) certificate is an important deliverable for building materials.

Our company supports clients in conducting life cycle assessments and creating EPD certificates.

Assessment areas

Conducting a full life cycle assessment of buildings and optimizing design solutions across various categories of environmental impact:

• Global warming impact, measured in CO2 equivalents

• Ozone depletion potential, measured in kilograms of CFC-11

• Impact on soil and water acidification, measured in H+ equivalents or kilograms of SO2

• Eutrophication, measured in kilograms of nitrogen or phosphate

• Tropospheric ozone formation, measured in kilograms of NOx or kilograms of ethylene

• Depletion of nonrenewable resources such as oil, gas, and coal, measured in megajoules

We also provide services to prepare the reporting documents required to earn points under the following standards:

• LEED: environmental building life cycle assessment (LCA) for the “Building Life-Cycle Impact Reduction” credit and

• BREEAM: the “Mat 01 Life cycle impacts” criterion. We also determine the points that may be achieved and provide recommendations.

We also offer building life cycle cost calculation (LCC) for the “Man 02 Life cycle cost and service life planning” criterion under the BREEAM International Non-Domestic Refurbishment 2015 certification system. We also determine the points that may be achieved and provide recommendations.

Our services include product life cycle assessment, including environmental impacts at every stage of its life cycle, in accordance with ISO 14040/14044. This includes raw material extraction, production, transportation, operation, repair and maintenance, as well as landfilling and recycling.

We provide consulting services for collecting and calculating data on various environmental impact characteristics of products.
