The Head Office of Uzpromstroybank Obtains EDGE Certification

The Head Office of SQB (Uzpromstroybank) is one of the first banks in Uzbekistan to achieve EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) certification for an operational bank building.

EDGE certification is an international certification system developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and funded by Switzerland and the United Kingdom. It aims to promote and simplify the creation of green and sustainable buildings in developing countries. This certificate confirms significant reductions in energy consumption, water resources, and the use of materials with minimal carbon footprints.

Key Results of EDGE Certification:

  • 23% reduction in energy consumption
  • 24% reduction in water consumption
  • 100% reduction in the carbon footprint of building materials

Main Measures Taken to Achieve These Results:

  • Insulation of the building's thermal envelope and use of single-pane glass windows to improve heat insulation;
  • Temperature control through thermostats, allowing users to regulate the indoor climate;
  • Installation of energy-efficient lighting and motion sensors in common areas to reduce energy costs;
  • Installation of a 100 kW solar power station on the roof, with online monitoring of energy generation;
  • Implementation of a solar collector for water heating;
  • Modernization of plumbing systems using water-efficient devices;
  • Complete reuse of building materials due to the long-term operation of the building and its elements.

HPBS’s Role in the Project:

The HPBS Center for Research and Environmental Engineering provided Uzpromstroybank with full support in the EDGE certification process, including:

  • Conducting a detailed technical audit of the building and existing documentation;
  • Developing recommendations and modernization plans to improve energy efficiency and reduce water consumption;
  • Monitoring the implementation of building modernization measures;
  • Full support during the EDGE audit and interaction with the certification body, including preparing documentation and defending the project before the certifier.
