ESG Forum in Tashkent: From Cost to Value

This summer, the first ESG forum in Uzbekistan, organized by Kursiv Uzbekistan and titled "From Cost to Value: Transforming the Economy for Sustainable Development," was held at the Hyatt Regency Tashkent. Leading experts, government representatives, and business leaders gathered to discuss the importance of implementing ESG principles for the sustainable development of the country.

The forum opened with a speech by Anastasia Novikova, Editor-in-Chief and Director of Kursiv Uzbekistan. She emphasized that many countries are already moving towards a green economy, and Uzbekistan has the potential to become a regional leader in this area. Anastasia also noted that the implementation of ESG principles would help the country improve its environmental situation and attract additional investments.

The first session focused on sustainability as a tool for business development. Representatives from both the public sector and businesses discussed the contribution of the business community to the formation of a green economy. Suna Park, Director of the National Center for Green Transformation and Climate Change Adaptation and Advisor to the Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, stressed that without the participation of the private sector, it is impossible to create a sustainable economy. She also highlighted the importance of cooperation between government and business in this process.

Speakers at the forum included representatives from Uzbekhydroenergo, ACWA Power, and other market leaders, who shared their experiences in implementing ESG principles and their strategies for the future. A significant part of the discussions was dedicated to corporate governance and the impact of ESG on business decision-making.

HPBS was represented at the forum by Ramilya Ruzi Mamati, who actively supports sustainable development and the adoption of ESG principles in Uzbekistan.

The forum concluded with awards for participants who asked the best questions and actively engaged in discussions, as well as expressions of gratitude to the sponsors, including UN Global Compact, ACWA Power, Coca-Cola, Huawei, TBC Bank Uzbekistan, and Payme. The event was a significant step in promoting sustainable development in the country and raising awareness of the importance of ESG principles for the future of Uzbekistan.
